KITA NAMI
Brand & Beyond + Print & Collateral
Kita Nami is a modern sushi bar inspired by northern Japanese heritage, with its name meaning “north wave”, a quiet nod to the ocean, movement, and the origins of its craft. Built around fresh, hand-rolled sushi and a fast, accessible service style, the brand was designed to sit comfortably between traditional technique and contemporary street food culture.
Created for both eat-in and takeaway, Kita Nami needed to feel just as strong in a customer’s hands as it did on the street, balancing quality, speed, and visual impact without losing its sense of origin.

The Brief
They needed a brand that could honour Japanese influence while feeling bold, modern, and recognisable, something that would cut through a saturated market and carry the energy of the food into every interaction.
The Challenge
Crowded Market
Sushi spots were everywhere, and most looked interchangeable. Kita Nami needed to be instantly recognisable, whether seen on the street, online, or in someone’s hands.
Cultural Balance
The brand needed to honour Japanese craft without feeling distant or overly traditional for a UK audience. Early ideas leaned either too minimal or too stylised, missing the mark.
Packaging as Presence
With takeaway at the core of the business, packaging wasn’t just functional, it was the brand. It needed to hold attention, travel well, and create impact beyond the store.
The Solution
We built Kita Nami from the ground up, shaping a brand that feels bold, fluid, and rooted in meaning. Inspired by the idea of the “north wave”, the identity balances movement and structure, tradition and modernity, creating something that feels both distinctive and grounded.
Iconic Logo Suite
A confident word mark paired with a simplified emblem, designed to feel bold and memorable.
Pattern Language
A repeatable pattern inspired by rhythm and flow, creating a visual thread that carries.
Packaging that Travels
Designed for real use, from takeaway boxes to bags, each piece anextension of the brand.
